Prof. Om Prakash Vyas, Vice Chancellor & Director, IIIT-NR,
Prof. O.P. Vyas has recently been appointed as the Director of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Naya Raipur. He is a senior academician, researcher, and institutional leader with over three decades of rich experience in higher technical education, research, and academic administration.
Prof. Vyas holds an M.Tech. in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur, and pursued his Ph.D. research at TU Kaiserslautern, Germany, under the prestigious DAAD Fellowship program. He has contributed significantly during his tenure as Dean of Technology Development, Professor of Information Technology at IIIT Allahabad, where he played a key role in academic innovation, including the conceptualization and launch of the B.Tech. (IT–Business Informatics) program.
His areas of specialization include Data Science, Process Intelligence, Business Informatics, Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) and Cyber Security. He has successfully led several national and international collaborative research projects, and served as Visiting Professor in countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Norway, and Japan.
Known for his academic vision, dedication to student-centric learning, and strategic leadership, Prof. Vyas aims to elevate IIIT Naya Raipur as a premier hub of technology, innovation, and multidisciplinary education aligned with the goals of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020., while also contributing meaningfully to the state's technological growth.
A native of Raipur, Chhattisgarh, Prof. Vyas is widely regarded as a pioneer of IT education in the region. As the Founding Head of the Department of Computer Science at Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, he introduced the region’s first formal academic program in Computer Science in 1992. This landmark initiative laid the groundwork for the expansion of IT education across Chhattisgarh. Committed to inclusive growth, Prof. Vyas worked tirelessly to extend the reach of IT education to rural and remote areas of the state, bridging the digital divide and empowering underserved communities
